Set your tax rates

Name each tax your location charges, its rate, and what it applies to.

You type your own rates. They are yours to check against your tax authority's notice before you put them in force.

For a cafe or a shop

1. Open Setup and find Tax. Tap Set my rates.
2. Type the place the rates are for, such as "Austin, Texas".
3. For each tax, type its name and its rate as a percent, such as 8.25.
4. Tick what it applies to: Food and drink, Merchandise, or both.
5. Tap Add another tax for the next one. A state tax and a city tax are two rows.
6. Tick the box that says you have checked the rates, then tap Apply my rates.

The rates are in force from the next sale.

For a hotel

A tax on rooms can also be:

• Amount per night, or Amount per person per night, for a city or tourist tax.
• Already in the price, where the price you show includes the tax. The tax is then taken out of the price, not added on top.
• Exempt from night 30, where a long stay pays none of it.
• First nights only, where only the first nights of a stay pay it.

Changing a rate later

Tap Change my rates. The form starts from what is in force. Applying it makes a new set dated today. Sales already made keep the tax they were rung with.

If no tax is set, a cafe rings sales with no tax on them and a hotel's night close stops until one is.
